Il territorio del comune di Ameglia è situato in val di Magra, quasi al confine con la Toscana, e fa parte del bacino idrografico del fiume Magra, dalle rive del quale si estende fino alle alture del monte Caprione. Il territorio si affaccia a sud-ovest sul golfo dei Poeti e di conseguenza sul mar Ligure.
