La battaglia di Castiglione, anche detta battaglia di Medole o battaglia del Monte Medolano, si svolse nei territori di Castiglione delle Stiviere, Medole e Solferino, il 5 agosto 1796, tra le forze francesi del giovane generale Napoleone Bonaparte e quelle austriache del feldmaresciallo Dagobert von Würmser nel corso della prima campagna d'Italia durante la guerra della Prima coalizione.
La battaglia, terminata con la netta vittoria dell'Armata d'Italia, concluse la campagna iniziata il 29 luglio 1796 con l'offensiva austriaca dal Trentino per sbloccare la fortezza di Mantova assediata dalle truppe francesi. Dopo alcune gravi difficoltà e incertezze, il generale Bonaparte organizzò un audace piano di operazioni che gli permise di concentrare le sue forze e sbaragliare una dopo l'altra le diverse colonne d'attacco austriache che avanzavano separate a est e a ovest del Lago di Garda. Il 5 agosto a Castiglione venne disfatta la colonna principale guidata personalmente dal comandante in capo austriaco, feldmaresciallo von Wurmser.
