Il Real Teatro di San Carlo, noto anche come Teatro di San Carlo o Teatro San Carlo, più semplicemente chiamato San Carlo, è il teatro lirico di Napoli. Fondato nel 1737, è il più antico teatro d'opera del mondo ad essere tuttora attivo, primo teatro italiano ad istituire una scuola per la danza; anticipa di 41 anni il Teatro alla Scala di Milano e di 55 anni il Teatro La Fenice di Venezia. In origine, poteva ospitare 3285 spettatori, poi ridotti a 1386 in seguito alle normative sulla sicurezza. Conta una vasta platea , cinque ordini di palchi disposti a ferro di cavallo più un ampio palco reale, un loggione ed un palcoscenico .
