La chiesa fu edificata nel 1833 sul sito di una preesistente chiesa appartenente al Monastero di San Gaetano , fondato nel 1708.
La chiesa è a pianta rettangolare ad aula unica e abside, coperta da volta a botte con sei finestre quadrate . L'ingresso principale ha una doppia porta in legno. Nelle pareti laterali si aprono sei cappelle poco profonde con altari. La facciata è in pietra non intonacata.
L'interno della chiesa è austero . L' altare maggiore è in marmi policromi. È montato su una scala in marmo con 5 gradini. Negli anni '70 è stato aggiunto un altare a colonne fisse in marmo 'coram populo'. Per questo intervento l'altare è stato collocato nel coro del sacerdote vicino al monumentale altare 'coram Dei', che era rimasto nella sua sede originaria.
