La torre fu costruita nel 1550 dalla confraternita di San Michele.
Si tratta di una possente struttura dalla perfetta forma geometrica , a base quadrata e con superfici scolpite a vista, priva di finestre se non sul lato sud. Ha le caratteristiche di una fortificazione costruita a Sciacca ai tempi di Carlo V (XVI secolo), quando era maggiore la minaccia di attacchi pirateschi o di uno sbarco turco . La torre fu probabilmente costruita a scopo di osservazione e successivamente venne utilizzata come campanile.
Oggi è anche un punto panoramico privilegiato da cui si può godere di un panorama a 360 gradi dell'intera città.
