La Turfvaart è un corso d'acqua lungo circa 24 km che corre attraverso le aree naturali di Pannenhoef e Vloeiweide lungo Effen fino a Breda, dove si riversa nell'Aa o Weerijs.
La Turfvaart fu scavata nel XVII secolo. La prima parte della Turfvaart fu completata nel 1619.
La via d'acqua era una importante arteria da cui l'area veniva sfruttata per la torba. La via d'acqua consentì il drenaggio della torbiera e la torba veniva trasportata a Breda. Al ritorno, le chiatte trasportavano letame per fertilizzare l'area bonificata.
L'estrazione di torba iniziò a diminuire alla fine del XVII secolo, poiché i migliori luoghi di estrazione erano già stati sfruttati. L'ultimo carico di torba fu trasportato a Breda nel 1733.
