Il cronista Priorato della regina Cristina ricorda che lei trascorse una notte nel castello reale di Jönköping durante il suo viaggio verso sud dopo la sua abdicazione nel 1654. Il castello fu bruciato nel 1737. Non fu mai ricostruito. Le rovine furono ripulite nel XIX secolo.
