Ground Zero, in inglese, è il termine con il quale, dagli esperimenti sull'atomica del Progetto Manhattan e il successivo bombardamento nucleare del Giappone nel 1945, si designa il luogo sulla superficie terrestre-marina perpendicolare all'epicentro di una esplosione atomica, sia essa avvenuta in atmosfera, sottoterra o sott'acqua; in seguito il termine Ground Zero venne anche utilizzato, impropriamente, per identificare il punto focale del luogo dove avviene una massiccia deflagrazione, l'epicentro di un terremoto o di un altro disastro.
Il termine è divenuto per antonomasia l'area nella parte meridionale di Manhattan sulla quale, prima degli attacchi terroristici alle torri gemelle dell'11 settembre 2001, sorgevano gli edifici WTC 1 e WTC 2 , appartenenti al complesso del World Trade Center.
