De molen, die oorspronkelijk in Houtgrave bij Brugge stond, werd in 1980 gekocht door Etienne Van Hoe. Die wou hem afbreken en terug opbouwen in de Huisepontweg in Wannegem-Lede, rechtover zijn woning.
De naam "Schietsjampettermolen" is afkomstig van de gebeurtenissen tijdens het transport van de molen. De veldwachter van Houtgrave zag het immers niet zitten dat de molen zou verhuizen. Hij schoot tot 2 maal in de lucht om het transport tegen te houden.
