Maldegem is een gemeente in de Belgische provincie Oost-Vlaanderen. Deze gemeente in het noordwesten van de regio Meetjesland telt ruim 24 103 inwoners sinds januari 2021, waarvan er ruim 16.000 in Maldegem zelf wonen. De inwoners van Maldegem worden Maldegemnaars genoemd.Maldegem heeft als bijnaam "die Loyale", een naam die het verkreeg toen Filips III van Maldegem zich in 1300 onderscheidde door zijn trouw aan de Vlaamse graaf Gwijde van Dampierre. Later is die naam dan overgenomen door Maldegem zelf.
