Wist je dat de naam Pajottenland maar dateert van de 19de eeuw. Het komt van Payot. wat oorspronkelijk de Waalse benaming voor een soldaat uit de eigen streek was, in tegenstelling tot de vreemde Oostenrijkse soldaten. Het woord is een afleiding van pays streek. Het woord Pajottenland werd bedacht door de Lennikse advocaat Frans-Joseph De Gronckel. Hij gebruikte het woord Pajottenland, onder het pseudoniem Franciscus Josephus Twyfelloos, in een romantisch en ludiek geschrift dat gepubliceerd werd in de eerste helft van de 19de eeuw. Hij vermeldde de naam Pajottenland voor het eerst in een krantenfeuilleton in 1845. Daardoor creëerde hij niet alleen een naam voor deze streek maar ook een eigenheid en zelfbewustzijn.
