Het Hageland is een streek in het westen van Limburg en strekt zich uit tot het gebied tussen Aarschot, Leuven, Tienen en Diest. De benaming werd eerst opgetekend in 1528: het Hagelant. Zoals verwacht heeft de benaming iets te maken met dicht kreupelhout ("hage"). De naam werd gegeven toen, na de grote ontginningen in de middeleeuwen, het Hageland als enig bosrijk gebied in het hertogdom Brabant was overgebleven.
