Het is een monument ter herinnering aan de 38 gesneuvelde soldaten en de 23 gesneuvelde burgerlijke slachtoffers van WO I. In 1928 werd het Heilig-Hartbeeld ingehuldigd. Later werden ook de namen van de oorlogsslachtoffers van WO II aangebracht op het monument.
