De abdij van Vlierbeek ontstond in 1125 en werd verbouwd tot in 1796. Ze werd gesticht door de Benedictijnen uit Affligem. Het huidige complex bestaat uit een neoclassicistische kerk en het neoclassicistische nieuwe abtskwartier, dat een nooit voltooid 18e eeuwse complex behoord. Achter het nieuwe abtskwartier vind men het 16e eeuwse oude abtskwartier, gebouwd in traditionele bak- en zandsteen stijl. De kelders gaan terug tot de late middeleeuwen en vormen het oudste deel van het abdijcomplex. Rondom het hoofdcomplex vindt men de oude abdijhoeve en enkele dienstgebouwen. Van deze gebouwen is de 16de eeuwse westpoort het oudste. Op het kerkhof bevinden zich grafmonumenten van beroemde personen. Geniet van een heerlijk drankje in het populaire volkscafé 'In de Rozenkrans' (www.in-den-rozenkrans.be)
