‘Den Dikke van Sesjans’, een bronzen paard, gestald op de berm van de hoeve waar hij ooit heerste. Het kunstwerk is van Jan Desmarets. ‘Den Dikke’ was in het echte leven een dekhengst en als dusdanig één van de stamvaders van wat later het Belgisch trekpaard zou worden. Charles-Louis Matthijs (1796-1890) vestigde zich hier als landbouwer en hengstenhouder en was reeds in 1842 actief met de paardenkweek bezig. Zijn beroemdste paard -toen nog niet op stamboek- was Jan, de dikke van Matthijs of van Hemelveerdegem of … den Dikke van Sesjans (verbastering van Sint Jans). Nu waakt hij achterdochtig over zijn hoeve, met zijn kont naar het publiek toe. De gerestaureerde hoeve is nu … een paardenpension.
