Café des Westens was het hart van de modernisering na WO I in Berlijn. Onder zijn bezoekers kon het Ozkar Kokoschka, Paul Klee, Vasilly Kandinsky, Marc Chagall, en George Grosz rekenen.
Toen in 1920 de uitbater de prijs van de drank fors liet stijgen verhuisde iedereen naar de Romantisches Café, tegenover de Kaiser-Wilhelm Gedächtniskirche.
He Café bevond zich vanaf 1898 tot 1915 aan de Kurfürstendamm 18/19.
