Cochem is een stadje aan de Moezel in Duitsland. Het ligt in de deelstaat Rijnland-Palts. Cochem telt 5.256 inwoners. Het is de Kreisstadt van de Landkreis Cochem-Zell. De stad is een toeristisch plaatsje dat gedomineerd wordt door het bergslot.
De burcht van Cochem werd in de 12e en 13e eeuw gebouwd en diende als bescherming van de stad en de Moezel. Eeuwenlang was Cochem een stad in het prins-aartsbisdom Trier. De stad Trier zelf ligt stroomopwaarts aan de Moezel. Tijdens de Negenjarige Oorlog vernielden de Franse troepen van Lodewijk XIV de stad Cochem en de burcht . De heropbouw nadien verliep moeizaam. Een eeuw later, met de Vrede van Bazel kwam Cochem met de hele Moezelstreek onder Frans revolutionair bestuur. Napoleon heeft er in 1801 zijn intrek genomen gedurende de oorlog met de Duitse landen.
