Tot 1815 was Kalzendorf een ambtsdorp in het Saksische Ambt Freyburg en kwam daarna onder Pruisen. In 1689 woonden er in het dorp 31 besessene mannen, waaronder 7 Anspänner en 24 Hintersättler. Het dorpsgebied bestond uit 14 hufen en grensde aan Steigra, Jüdendorf en de landweg, bij Schnellroda.
Het dorp viel onder het gebied van het landgerecht Karsdorf en was in kerkelijke zin een filiaal van de hoofdkerk Steigra.
