De Vechtebron ligt aan de rand van Darfeld, precies gezegd in de buurtschap Oberdarfeld. Ze ontspringt uit een kleine bronpot met meerdere bruisende grondbronnen en oppervlakkige sijpels. Vanaf de kleine brug bij de bronpot kan je, als je goed kijkt, het water zien bruisen.
In de afgelopen jaren zijn door herstructureringsmaatregelen de ecologische omstandigheden van de Vechtebron verbeterd. Ze werd bovendien in 2003 als natuurgebied aangewezen.
Bij de bron in Oberdarfeld begint ook een populaire fietstocht, die over 225 kilometer langs de Vechte naar Nederland leidt. Hier mondt de Vechte na 182 kilometer stroomlengte bij Zwolle uit in het Zwarte Water en stroomt vervolgens in het IJsselmeer.
