Soultz, gelegen op de wijnroute en genesteld aan de voet van de Vogezen vlakbij hun hoogste top, werd voor het eerst vermeld in 667. De naam komt waarschijnlijk van "Sulza", wat zou verwijzen naar een bron met zout water.
Dankzij de wijnbouw kende de stad een welvarende renaissance in de 16e en 17e eeuw, zoals nog steeds te zien is aan de prachtige huizen met traptorens, erkers en steunberen.
Met 7.311 inwoners is Soultz een zeer aangename plaats om te bezoeken en bezoekers zullen zeker verrast zijn als ze door de smalle straatjes en langs het historische oude stadspad wandelen.
Je zult verrukt zijn als je de verhalen hoort van de illustere mensen die hier hebben gewoond, zoals Georges Heckeren d'Anthès, wiens kasteel nog steeds te bewonderen is en die het in een fataal duel opnam tegen de Russische dichter Poesjkin.
Dit gastvrije stadje, dat accommodatie, restaurants en winkels biedt, is de ideale plek om te verblijven als je de Florival-vallei en al haar schatten wilt ontdekken.
