Villeneuve-d’Ascq is een Franse gemeente en een technopolis, gelegen in het departement Nord, in de regio Hauts-de-France. Het maakt deel uit van de Europese Metropool van Lille. Met 63.000 inwoners op 2.746 hectare, was het een van de 9 nieuwe steden die door de regering in Frankrijk zijn besloten om de grote metropolen in de buurt te ontlasten, een status die sinds 1983 verloren is gegaan omdat het werk is voltooid. Het is ontstaan uit de fusie van de drie gemeenten Flers-lez-Lille, Annappes en Ascq op 25 februari 1970, en het ontleent zijn naam aan de laatste, die het toneel was van een tragisch historisch evenement, de bloedbaan van Ascq.
