De kathedraal van Napels (of Duomo) is gewijd aan San Gennaro (St. Januarius), de beschermheilige van de stad. De kerk herbergt een flesje met het bloed van de heilige dat twee keer per jaar naar buiten wordt gebracht, op de eerste zaterdag van mei en 19 september, en meestal vloeibaar wordt. Volgens de legende zal er iets ergs met Napels gebeuren als het bloed niet vloeibaar wordt.
