Geleen is een plaats en voormalige gemeente in de Nederlandse provincie Limburg. Zij dankt haar naam aan haar ligging bij het riviertje de Geleen , dat de oostgrens van de gemeente vormde. De plaats omvat de vroegere dorpskernen Oud-Geleen, Lutterade, Krawinkel, Spaans Neerbeek en Daniken, en daaromheen de in de laatste eeuw ontstane wijken. Anno 2021 wonen er 31.245 mensen. Geleen beslaat in 2021 een grondgebied van 1957 hectare land en heeft zodoende een bevolkingsdichtheid van 1626 inwoners/km².
