In Paul Verhoevens klassieker “Soldaat van Oranje” duikt het Binnenhof met de Hofvijver op in scènes waarin Den Haag het decor vormt voor de politieke en militaire machtscentra tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog. De historische gebouwen en de spiegeling in de Hofvijver versterken het contrast tussen de ogenschijnlijke rust van de stad en de dreiging van de bezetting. Daardoor voelt het Binnenhof hier letterlijk als het hart van het land dat onder druk staat.
