Waarschijnlijk is de naam "Onze Lieve Vrouw van de Elzentak" afkomstig van de elzenboom waaronder het kapelletje staat.
Deze kapel is in mei 1935 door pastoor Verbunt ingewijd.
Het initiatief tot oprichting van dit kapelletje kwam van de Katholieke Jeugdvereniging. De buurt bracht de financiële middelen bijeen.
De stenen voor de bouw van de kapel zijn per tram vanuit België aangevoerd naar het voormalige tramstation bij de Kruispad. Vandaar zijn ze naar Tiggelt gebracht.
De grond werd afgestaan door de weduwe Roovers. Het oorspronkelijke beeldje is vervangen door het beeldje wat nu staat. Dit beeld is geschonken door mevrouw C. Maas-Roovers.
