De ophaalbrug / The Brooklyn Bridge
This is the Dutch 'Brooklyn Bridge'! In the 17th century Duch immigrants founded new settlements in America that they named after their place of origin: New Amsterdam (now: New York), Haarlem (Harlem), Vlissingen (Flushing) and Breukelen (Brooklyn). After Worldwar II inhabitants of Brooklyn supplied essential goods for the inhabitants of Breukelen in the project 'Brooklyn supports Breukelen, Holland'. Initiator was Miss Marguerite Salomon, who initiated overseas contacts since 1927 and even came over in 1948 to carry out her personal 'Marshall-help'.
