In Montferland zijn veel, soms grote zwerfstenen gevonden. Deze zijn tijdens de voorlaatste ijstijd (Saalien, circa 238.000 – 126.000.000 jaar geleden) vanuit Scandinavië met het landijs meegekomen. In Stokkum werd een grote steen opgegraven (Berghse Kei) opgegraven die nu te zien is bij de ingang van het kasteel in ’s‑Heerenberg, in Hoch-Elten staat een ‘Findling’ en ook op het terrein van ’t Peeske bij Beek staat er een opgesteld.
De steen, die hier bij de T-kruising ligt, lijkt versleept te zijn om deze kruising te markeren.
