Lycksele is de hoofdstad van de gemeente Lycksele in het landschap Lapland en de provincie Västerbottens län in Zweden. De stad heeft 8597 inwoners en een oppervlakte van 858 hectare. De stad ligt aan de rivier de Umeälven. Van oorsprong was Lycksele een Samenby, een plaats waar de Samen of ook wel Lappen genoemd samen komen om goederen te verhandelen of ter kerke te gaan. Hoewel in het boek Lycksälie vermeld wordt dat het een winterwoonplaats was, moet dit betwijfeld worden omdat de Sami grote winterwoonsteden hadden in Granö en Umeå.
