Una anècdota coneguda sobre el campanar de Tournai tracta d'un campaner que va fer una campana per al campanar de Tournai.
Un cop penjada i sonada la campana, els habitants del poble es van adonar que el so no era agradable. El denunciant, que era una mica més gran, va pujar a la torre per investigar el problema. Va descobrir que el rellotge havia estat penjat cap per avall . Va ser un error costós, i la campana va haver de ser llançada i penjada de nou.
El campanar, que data del segle XII, és Patrimoni de la Humanitat per la UNESCO . Es pot pujar a la torre (72m, 257 graons).
