Va ser un polític, militar, diplomàtic, escriptor, humanista i ideòleg veneçolà , considerat el precursor de l'emancipació americana contra l'Imperi espanyol . Conegut com el primer veneçolà universal i el nord-americà més universal, va participar en la independència dels Estats Units i en la Revolució Francesa , esdeveniment en el qual va tenir un paper protagonista i va rebre el títol d'Heroi de la Revolució.
Més tard va ser líder dels patriotes a la independència de Veneçuela i governant de la Primera República de Veneçuela com a dictador plenipotenciari i cap suprem dels estats veneçolans.
