L'església de Sant Buenaventura pertany al monestir franciscà del mateix nom , fundat al segle XVII.
Va ser utilitzat originàriament com a centre d'estudis del monestir Casa Grande de San Francisco , que ocupava la propera plaça Nova. Posteriorment va patir nombroses reformes fins que va ser expropiada. A finals del segle XIX van tornar els frares franciscans.
L'exterior de l'església és senzill, però el retaule ceràmic de la Mare de Déu de la Soledat no ho és. Segurament és el més cridaner de la Sevilla actual pel seu relleu.
L'interior de l'edifici és de planta rectangular de dues naus, ja que antigament es va ampliar cap al carrer Bilbao. La volta del creuer és mig taronja i està decorada amb frescos de sants franciscans de Francisco de Herrera el Viejo. Els vuit metges en cap de l'orde franciscana també estan representats en una altra volta.
