El Raval ha estat, des de gairebé l’inici de la història de Barcelona, un espai destinat a acollir institucions caritatives i sanitàries. Des de l'establiment dins del seu perímetre de l’Hospital de Santa Creu, les diferents institucions que s'hi han instal·lat han anat donant caràcter al barri fins ben entrat el segle XX, quan els nous corrents higienistes van postular la convinença de traslladar els serveis sanitaris i caritatius a les zones exteriors de la ciutat. “Sanitat al Raval: una història de més de 500 anys” seguirà les traces d’una llarga història sanitària al barri a través dels seus edificis -començant al segle XII a l’antic Hospital de Sant Llàtzer i acabant al segle XX al dispensari anti-tuberculós- i dels seus protagonsites: llebrosos, pobres, òrfes, bordelleres, fatus, epil·lèptics, impedits, anormals, tuberculosos, desvalguts...
