Sarlat e la Canedat o simplement Sarlat és un municipi francès, situat al departament de la Dordonya i a la regió de la Nova Aquitània. L'any 1999 tenia 9.707 habitants.Sarlat és una ciutat medieval que s'ha desenvolupat al voltant d'una gran abadia benedictina d'origen carolingi. Senyoria monàstica, va atènyer la seva esplendor en el segle xiii. L'origen de l'abadia es perd en les llegendes. Existeix ja al segle ix, formant part de les sis grans abadies del Perigord . L'abadia de Sarlat és l'única que va ser perdonada pels vikings, segurament per estar lluny del marge de la Dordonya i els seus afluents.
