El verd maragda del mar i el blanc enlluernador de les platges de còdols, els grups de palmeres nanes i arbustos de romaní, els garrofers i les oliveres mil·lenàries, els camins d'acant que s'enfilen als cims més alts, les coves que s'obren de cop. els penya-segats on nidifiquen àguiles i falcons... la reserva natural del Zingaro és una experiència única.
No se sap res del perquè d'aquesta zona s'anomena "gitana", de fet no hi ha notícies sobre nòmades que habitaven en aquestes zones per les fonts històriques, mentre que s'indica la presència d'una colònia llombarda al segle XIII.
