Færgen fra Baasrode nævnes i et dokument fra 1296. Det var en vigtig forbindelse til skibsværfterne og stationen i Baasrode. Om foråret var der travl handelsaktivitet med de tidlige kartofler, der blev dyrket i de fugtige områder ved Moerzeke. Markerne med landbrug er blevet udnyttet i stor skala med drivhuse.
