Det grænser mod vest til Gaume og mod øst til Storhertugdømmet Luxembourg. Det ligger syd for Ardennerne og betragtes ikke længere som en del af dem. Det svarer stort set til arrondissementet Arlon. Arlon er hovedbyen i denne region. I Arlon's land har folksprog traditionelt været luxembourgisk, som også tales i det nærliggende Storhertugdømme Luxembourg. I 1990 anerkendte det franske fællesskab de lokale sprog på sit territorium, herunder luxembourgisk, dog uden at tage yderligere foranstaltninger.
