De Zavel er et kvarter i den historiske hjerte af Bruxelles, i kanten af de 12. århundredes befæstninger.
Mennesker har meget sandsynligt udvundet sand her i fortiden. I 1304 solgte Skt. Jans hospital dette område til laugget af armbrøstskytter, som byggede en kirke her. Tidligere havde stedet været brugt til at begrave de døde fra hospitalet. Skt. Maria til Zavel kirken skiller sig ud med sine 14 m høje glasvinduer; midlerne til at bygge et tårn manglede.
