Esslingen am Neckar, indtil 16. oktober 1964 officielt Eßlingen am Neckar, ligger ca. ti kilometer sydøst for byens centrum i Stuttgart og midt i den navngivne region, er en stor bykommune og samtidig den næststørste mellemby i Baden-Württemberg samt den elvte største by i regionen.
Den er sæde for amtets kontor og også den største by i Esslingen kommune. For de omkringliggende kommuner danner Esslingen et mellemcenter. Indbyggerne har kælenavnet Zwieblinger.
