Glindow har siden reformen af Brandenburger kommuneområder i 2001 været en del af Werder. Stedet har siden middelalderen været et centrum for teglindustrien. Fra den glindowske ler blev de typiske gule teglsten for markedet Brandenburg fremstillet.
Med det slaviske bynavn Glina, som kan oversættes til ler eller mudder, nævnes Glindow første gang i 1317.
