Slot Weesenstein hæver sig på en klippefremspring af knotglimmer med kvartsindskud over Müglitz-dalen cirka 3 km syd for Dohna i bydelen Weesenstein i kommunen Müglitztal.
Den første skriftlige omtale af slottet dateres til den 17. december 1318 i forbindelse med hjælpe- og tjenesteløftet fra burggraf Otto von Dohna overfor den meissenske markgreve Friedrich den Fredfyldte.
