Numantia var en gammel keltiberisk bosættelse, hvis rester ligger 7 km nord for byen Soria, på en bakke kendt som Cerro de la Muela i kommunen Garray. Numantia er berømt for sin rolle i de keltiberiske krige. I 153 f.Kr. oplevede Numantia sin første alvorlige konflikt med Rom. Efter tyve års fjendtligheder gav den romerske senat i 133 f.Kr. Scipio Aemilianus Africanus opgaven at destruere Numantia. Han lagde belejring til byen og opførte et ni kilometer langt hegn støttet af tårne, voldgraver, spidse stænger og andre apparater. Efter 13 måneders belejring besluttede numantianerne at brænde byen, før de overgav sig.
