Det blev grundlagt den 18. juli 1964, hvor Jesús Aparicio-Bernal Sánchez var den generaldirektør for Radiodifusión y Televisión, for at erstatte det tidligere TVE-hovedkvarter, som lå på Paseo de la Habana i Madrid, og som blev indviet af Francisco Franco. Hans Studie 1 havde en overflade på 1.200 kvadratmeter, hvilket gjorde det til et af de største studier i verden på det tidspunkt. Siden 1965 har det også været vært for produktionen af den Anden Kanal. I 1971 blev Ràdio Nacional de Españas centraladministration flyttet derover, i en tilknyttet bygning til hovedbygningen, som blev kaldt Casa de la rádio.
