Die Lokomotivfabrik Floridsdorf wurde am 6. September 1869 gegründet und erarbeitete sich im Laufe ihres Bestandes dank ihrer konstruktiven Vielfalt und Qualität einen Spitzenplatz unter den europäischen Lokomotivfabriken.
Nach der Lokomotivfabrik der Staatseisenbahngesellschaft und jenen von Georg Sigl war die Floridsdorfer Lokomotivfabrik die dritte derartige Fabrik auf dem Gebiet der Donaumonarchie.
