Kočevje ist der Name einer Stadt sowie der dazugehörenden Gemeinde im zentralen bzw. südlichen Slowenien. Die in einer sehr stark bewaldeten Gegend gelegene Gemeinde hat 16.184 Einwohner und eine Fläche von 555 km² . Der gleichnamige Hauptort liegt am Fluss Rinse inmitten eines Karstfeldes und hat 8.868 Einwohner . Die Gegend ist unter anderem ein Refugium für Braunbären. Das Gottscheer Land war eine bis zum Jahr 1941 bestehende deutsche Sprachinsel innerhalb des geschlossenen slowenischen Sprachgebiets.
