Stadtführer Luc Van Schoors am Manneken-Pis: “Hinter mir steht der älteste Bürger von Geraardsbergen, genannt Manneken-Pis. Er ist 160 Jahre älter als sein Neffe aus Brüssel.”
“Ich bin Mitglied der Bruderschaft des Geraardsbergser Manneken-Pis. Diese kümmert sich um die Promotion und den Schutz der Statue. Das ist auch nötig, denn das Manneken hat eine bewegte Geschichte”, sagt Luc. “Das Manneken stand einst am Rathaus, aber als dieses 1890 renoviert wurde, landete die Statue in einem Kohlenkasten.”
Das Manneken schien auf ein ruhmloses Ende zuzusteuern. “Aber das wurde von den Geraardsbergenaren nicht hingenommen. Diese protestierten heftig. Die Statue kehrte zurück und bekam einen Platz an der Kiosk auf dem Markt. Um dann nach dem Abriss des Kiosks wieder einen Standort am Rathaus zu bekommen, wo sie jetzt noch immer steht.”
