Das Weiler Cotthem liegt an einem Hang, in einer waldreichen Umgebung. Vor Jahrhunderten muss dort ein gewisser Cota gelebt haben. Cotthem ist schließlich eine Verfälschung des germanischen Cota haim, was so viel bedeutet wie „der Wohnort von Cota“.
Das Weiler liegt zwischen Oombergen, Hillegem und Sint-Lievens-Houtem. Alles strahlt Ruhe und Stille aus. Zwischen dem üppigen Grün stehen noch alte, charaktervolle Häuser, von denen einige zu einem Restaurant umgebaut wurden.
