Es wurde lange geglaubt, dass der Freiheitsbaum von Morkhoven während der Brabanter Revolution (1789-1791) gepflanzt wurde. Der Baum, der damals gepflanzt wurde, ist in den darauf folgenden unruhigen Zeiten verschwunden. Der Baum wurde höchstwahrscheinlich anlässlich der belgischen Unabhängigkeit durch einen neuen Freiheitsbaum ersetzt. Aus einer spezialisierten Jahresringanalyse geht hervor, dass das Pflanzdatum der aufstrebenden holländischen Linde um 1830 liegt.
