In der Molenstraat, an der Brücke über die Mark, liegt die wunderschön restaurierte Laermühle. Vor 1381 stand an dieser Stelle eine Wasser- oder Mühle, die „Laermühle“ genannt wurde („Das Laer“ = eine unbebaute, schwammige Wiese). Ursprünglich handelte es sich nur um eine Getreidemühle. Später war auch von einer Schlägmühle oder Ölmühle die Rede, um ölhaltige Samen zu zerquetschen. Im Laufe der Jahre wurde die Mühle mehrfach zerstört und wieder aufgebaut. Einige begeisterte Hoogstratener, vereint in der vzw De Laermühle, haben diese Mühle zwischen 2000 und 2004 wieder in ihren früheren Glanz versetzt. Sogar das Wasserrad dreht sich wieder.
