Er liegt auf der rechten Seite der Rhone, tief im kleinen Lienne-Tal, am Fuße des Rawylpasses und ist 156 Meter hoch. 1957 wurde die Staumauer zum ersten Mal in Betrieb genommen. Sein Einzugsgebiet umfasst 18,7 Quadratkilometer und liegt auf 1.777 m.ü.M. Zahlreiche Wanderungen rund um den See sind möglich
