Starkenberg ist eine Gemeinde im thüringischen Landkreis Altenburger Land. Sie ist die bevölkerungsmäßig zweitgrößte und flächenmäßig größte Gemeinde in der Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Rositz, deren Sitz sich in der gleichnamigen Gemeinde befindet.
Starkenberg liegt etwa 9 km westlich von Altenburg im Altenburg-Zeitzer Lößhügelland, einem Teilgebiet der Leipziger Tieflandsbucht. Der Gerstenbach durchfließt die Gemeinde im Süden.
